Now that the school year is coming to a close, and I'm trying to rebuild my motivation and connection with life, one thing I'd like to start with is getting into reading again. I haven't seriously read since middle school, and I feel like the drop in my reading has gone along with the overall feeling of stagnation and lifelessness I've felt. I miss the feeling of getting immersed in a good book.
Since I'm pretty clueless on authors or books, I figured I'd ask one group of people for suggestions, to help narrow down the list of Google searches and Wikipedia pages to skim through, or at least provide some starting point.
Genres/themes/subject matter I'd be possibly interested in:
Dark fantasy
Horror, particularly psychological, possibly religious horror
Anything mind-screwy
And I'm open to more than this

The Name of The Star is a really good book. I think the author is Maureen Johnson
